Young Marine of the Year
SPACES

A Message from the National Executive Diretor: " I wanted to bring you all up to date on SPACES and ACE and some of the changes that have been made.  First, after a long hard look we have decided to step away from ACE for awhile to re-evaluate the program. The amount of countries that participate have been declining over the past few years, and the costs associated with sending Young Marines and adult chaperones can be better served being used for more SPACES events here.  Now on to SPACES. We have added two new events for 2012. First is ESCAPE (Educational Studies of Conservation using Adventures, Programs and Experiences). This event includes hiking the Appalacian Mountains, doing a little caving and some white water rafting, just to name a few of this events activities.  The other event is the return of SCUBA School! This will take place in Florida where the students will receive intense instruction in the classroom along with application training in pools and finally performing four open water dives. Upon completion of this school students will have earned their open water PADI certification!"

* ** LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD ADULTS***

YM National HQ is are looking for a few good adults at this year’s National Leadership Academy. Adults must commit from 12 July 28 July 2012. Select individuals may be asked to come in earlier. If you

are interested please apply through the database under Academy Staff. If you have a medical

background and commit to the dates above please apply through the database under Academy

Medical Staff.  The hours will be long. Your gear list is the same as the ALS list. Registered Adults should be physically fit and be able to participate in all of the events that the Young Marines do. It will be

physically and emotionally challenging at times. There will be no compensation with the

exception of: seeing the joy on a Young Marine’s face as they accomplish something they

thought was impossible, laughing so hard you cry, gaining knowledge, and a renewed sense of

motivation.  Thank you for volunteering! We look forward to seeing you.
