Defining the core values to which the Young Marine program promotes and instills within its members, the words "teamwork, leadership and discipline" are detailed on the plane's tail.
Plane Details
Emblazoned above the windows in red lettering are the words “Young Marines.” A bulldog with the words “Devil Dog One,” appears on a side near the front. Devil Dog is a sobriquet battling Marines earned from German soldiers in World War I at the Battle of Belleau Wood in France. In another place are the words “Semper Fidelis,” meaning always faithful, the Marine motto, and an eagle, globe and anchor, the Marine emblem, is at the rear of the plane. There also is the insignia of the Young Marines.

Home based in Albany, Oregon, the de Havilland is about to roll out on a 10-month long tour of the United States.
Starting in early March, 2012, Happy Miles is taking the plane to air shows in Arizona, Florida, Wisconsin and Nevada.
See the bottom of this webpage for dates and locations.
What kind of plane is it?
It’s a de Haviland DH.114 Heron, and this one is the only flying Heron left. And to top that off, it was once the Queen of England’s personal transport.
The Heron was a pretty small plane (17 passenger capacity) to have four engines, but then the Gipsy Queen six cylinder motors made all of 250 hp each. There were 148 Herons built between 1950 and 1959.
